HIGHER DIPLOMA IN PHARMACY TECHNOLOGY

The role of the pharmacy profession has been evolving regionally and globally from being Pharmacist  and dispensers of medicines to a more clinical and patient focused role. For the pharmaceutical sector to function optimally and efficiently, the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians should have distinct roles although overlaps may not be completely obliterated. The course offers well balanced modules to cover essential aspects of pharmacy practice, cognizant of the evolving role of the pharmacy profession. The aim is to produce a healthcare cadre equipped with skills and knowledge to function as an effective dispenser of pharmaceutical services in primary healthcare settings.

Entry Requirements:
  1. A/L 3 passes in Bio Stream with O/L simple passes for Mathematics, Science & English. OR
  2. Completed Diploma in Pharmacy by Recognized Academy, OR
  3. A National Certificate at NVQ Level 4 in Pharmacy Technician.
The objectives of this programme are to:
  1. Provide up to date theoretical and applied knowledge in the Pharmacy discipline
  2. Enable students to recognize core areas of Pharmacy discipline which includes pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences
  3. Train students to utilize their understanding of fundamental knowledge to practice as a pharmacist
  4. Develop technical and transferable skills needed to practice as a Pharmacist
  5. Build ethical and professional conduct Encourage continuous personal and professional development through lifelong learning

The HND in Pharmacy Technology consists of courses   is 120 credits comprising 30 credits at each of the Levels.

Academic Pathway

Highre Diploma in Pharmasy Technology Qualification holders can move into the Bachelors level & the Bachelors can be completed either in Sri Lanka.

BSc in Pharmacy– Alliance International University – 1 year part time program in Sri Lanka after completing the  Highre Diploma in Pharmacy Technology program.
