This course is especially designed for those who wish to pursue a career in Nursing and Those who enjoy working with people and caring about promoting good health may be interested in pursuing such a career. The changing demand for nurses creates a variety of job openings in many places. The nurses can work in hospitals, universities, schools, nursing homes, ambulance services, elderly care facilities, airlines, factories, Construction sites, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), research organizations and many other healthcare facilities. Nurses can be involved in caring for the sick, rehabilitation, promoting health, preventing disease, teaching in health classes, teaching in a Nurses Training School and a host of other activities.

In the hospital, a Nurse will have the ability to practice in trauma/emergency, critical care, outpatient and inpatient surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, oncology, cardiology, rehabilitation, and psychiatry. In the community, the Nurses can practice in physicians' offices, clinics, schools, occupational and public health systems. 



  • G.C.E A/L  – 3 Passes in any stream  OR
  • G.C.E O/L  - 06 subjects with Nurse Assistant Certificate from  Recognized Institutions OR
  • Should have completed the foundation programme conducted by St.judy or by any other recognized institutions.  


HND for Nurse NVQ -06

  • The duration of the course for regular students is 3 year (36 months) Full Time

National Diploma For Nurse

  • The duration of the course for regular students is 3 year (36 months) Part Time (Week end only)





  • English & Tamil

Successful Completion

  • National Diploma in General Nursing  (NVQ 6)for candidates who complete the Ministry of Health PHSRC Recognized Nurses Unit Curriculum successfully.
  • General Nursing will be awarded at the end of three academic years. 
  • NTS awarding the Diploma - St.Judy Nurses Training School Sri Lanka
  • About 30 students are admitted each year to the St.Judy NTS - Kalmunai for National  Diploma  in General Nursing. 






Scheme of Semester Eveluation

  • A written examination at the middle of the each semester will be held and the marks obtained in the examination will be counted as for 25% in each semester.


  • A written examination at the end of each semester will be held and the marks obtained in the examination, covering the assigned modules of the respective semester will be counted as for 75%. These marks will be added for 100% and graded for the particular semester.




  • Students will be considered to have completed the course only if they earn grade C or above.



 A student who obtains grades of C- , D+, D or F in any of the semesters may

1.  Follow that semester again at his/her  own cost or

2.  Take part in the class room exercises and final examination of that semester or semesters again at his / her own cost in order to improve his/her grade.

3.  Only two more attempts will be given for this purpose and the maximum grade will be given C.

First Aid training at Village Level Schools

Full time 2 days First Aid training was provided to 240 students of the school that falls under Pattiruppu Educational Zone of East Sri Lanka with the sponsorship of world vision East  Area Development Project by the Institute of Pre hospital Care of St.Judy Homenursing International Associate.

This training was provided with the sole purpose of rendering a good knowledge and skills to the students, as the life of the innocent people who meet sudden accident in remote or back ward areas and accidents in schools of this areas, can be saved through providing basic life support  till he is taken to the hospital in an event of accident, thereby, these losses can be prevented by providing proper basic life support in time of need.

It is notable that St.Judy Homenursing International Associate is providing First Aid training to students and young people through the Institute of Pre hospital care.


St.Judy Homenursing International Associate donates training equipments worth of two hundred thousand rupees.

Training equipments worth of LKR:200,000 were donated to the base hospital, Kalmunai North by the manager Mr.M.M.Safras of the Institute of Pre hospital Care of St.Judy Homenursing International Associate in order to upgrade emergency services of medical and nursing officers.These equipments were handed over to the base hospital at the presence of Medical Superintendent, Matron and Nursing in- Charge of the emergency Treatment Unit.The medical officers and Nurses who work in the emergency Treatment Unit can enhance their knowledge and skills by exploitation of the services of these equipments.

St. Judy Homenursing International Associate is with the sole purpose of preventing the loss of lives of innocent people through accidents by providing training and equipments to the people and medical sector employees in pre hospital care services.

Primary Health Care Awareness programme on International Nurses Day 2015

International Nurses Day was honored and celebrated conducting basic health care maintenance and health awareness programme by St.judy Homenursing International Associate.

In this programme, more than 1000 civilians such as parents, students, religious leaders, pregnant women and police officers had participated and those who participated reaped the benefits of this programme through practical learning.

Many participants expressed their views as that, by conducting similar programme all over the nation, a good healthy society can be created.
